CHAPTER ONE

Opening Chapter

Rue

Rue

My fingers curled around the door frame as my little head peeked to look at the huge man talking to mother and father. He was tall and surpassed my father by more than a head foot.

I knew it was very unlovely for me to be eavesdropping on their conversation. But I was very much intrigued.

Mother was known for her skillful making of healing potions and other witchcraft expertise. I was very certain that these strangers were here for either of them.

"Ester, please! My son is dying! I cannot go another day to see him suffer." The woman cried beside the tall man. Her flaxen hair flowed down her back in silky waves. Her hair was very beautiful.

Mother was usually cool and collected but today I noted that she seemed a bit skittish. Father was also not in the slightest relaxed.

"King Zachary, my wife is trying her very best to see that your son is healed. Please give her a few more days. The prince's sickness is not easy to cure." Father begged.

King?

My mouth formed an 'o'. He must be the werewolf king father and mother had been yapping about earlier.

Now I knew why my parents were uneasy. The man screamed power and the woman wasn't far behind. The man named Zachary, his hair the shade of night, dark and hunting. His broad back was powerful. The man and the woman were both cloaked in red, the color of blood with golden drawings of wolves imprinted into the fabric. The fabric looked worth more than what mother and father make in a month.

"Isabela, my potions have never failed me. I will promise you this. I will cure your son of this ugly sickness that has plagued him." Mother said to the woman, her voice was sincere though she looked the slightest bit afraid to speak.

"You ought to quicken this up, Ester. My son cannot die." The woman named Isabela cried. "He is my only child, I cannot lose him."

Mother sighed in sadness and walked over to her table of potions. She grabbed one of the tiny bottles and examined the crystal blue liquid.

She shook it slightly and the liquid turned purple. She ambled back to the strangers, her form very much nervous.

"Take this potion and give it to him every two days. It will help him regain his strength until the potion is ready. I am only missing but one ingredient." Mother urged and pushed the potion into Isabel's hands.

Mother's silver eyes turn in utter pity. "I am sorry that I cannot do more at this moment."

"We will return on the night of the full moon. By then I expect the potion to be ready." The King named Zachary said with authority. His power made me shake in my little boots. Then they turned to leave.

Mother nodded whilst father looked doubtful. The full moon was just two days away.

My eyes widened as my little feet carried me away from the door. I knew that eavesdropping was not a pretty trait. Father would be unpleased if he knew.

I watched as the two strangers left. Their footsteps faded. If they may have noticed me then they certainly didn't show it. Their son was sick. Was this why Mother had been very frantic with her latest potion?

"Rue, darling come here this instant." Mother's voice called out. I cringe inwardly for I knew father had probably taken my scent. He was a werewolf after all.

My head bowed and I nervously twisted my hands in front of me as I entered the room. "Look up darling before you walk into another table like the last time." Mother said with a hint of humor.

I did as I was told and strutted over to them. "Oh darling, have we not warned you of eavesdropping on our conversations?" Mother questioned, fingers brushing through my unnatural icy-white hair. My hair color was rare and not the same as my mother's or father's.

I pouted and turned my head to the side. "I was only intrigued..."

"Rue, you could've gotten yourself killed today. These guests are not some measly people, they are powerful and not to be taken lightly. What if something had gone wrong?" Father scowled.

"It was just a peek, father, nothing more." I defended. "And nothing would have gone wrong for I am too beautiful for anyone to do harm." I turned to him and huffed.

Mother laughed lightly while Father's scowl deepened. "Rue, you must understand that your beauty will not save you from werewolves. You are a hybrid. These people do not like hybrids."

Mating with a witch who was considered a werewolf's enemy was frowned upon. Even though Mother created healing potions for werewolves they had still not accepted her as one of their own.

The only reason they had let such an atrocious thing happen was because Father was a good Beta. He would do anything for his kind. It was why the King had granted him his wish to mate with a witch. On one condition, we were to live far away from the pack.

"It’s none of my business that they hate me. They are only jealous because I am far more beautiful than they are." I shrugged.

Mother smiled and hugged me." Oh my darling. Yes, you are more beautiful than any girl I’ve met and do not let anyone tell you different." She whispered kissing my cheek lightly. “We witches do not ever think that we are less than others. We simply think we are beautiful and more powerful.”

"Ester, perhaps I should go to town to seek the last ingredient you are missing," Father scratched the back of his head in thought. His hair was the color of dried wheat. His eyes were the color of the ocean when the sky was clear.

Mother’s red hair bobbed as she nodded furiously. "Yes, you should. I cannot fail the king and queen. The full moon is just in two days, the werewolves will be out to hunt. If I cannot make this potion before then, I will be their prey…"

I gazed up at my mother, worry tightening my chest. I must help her. Perhaps I could find the last ingredient…

CHAPTER TWO

The Story Continues

Ares

"Prince Ares, you cannot come out of bed. You are too weak." Madame Lucia protested while putting me on the soft mattress.

I glared at her in defiance as much as I could. "Lucia, tonight is the full moon. What remains of my wolf is seeking to emerge. My wolf is restless. Please, Lucia. I need to feel the earth one last time before I die."

Her azure eyes narrowed with pity. "Nonsense! You will not die! King Zachary and Queen Isabela are seeking a cure for you."

My face was saddened. I was on the brink of death... I could feel the burn of the sickness crawling through my entire body, plaguing me. I was certain they could smell it too. Wolf's senses were heightened. Death clung to my room with a putrid scent.

It was not long until my soul would rest beneath the earth. I just wanted one last time to feel the dirt and leaves beneath my bare feet. All I wanted was to feel the world…

Lucia sighed, squeezing my hands. "I heard a white witch is creating a healing potion for you. If it is who I think, then you have nothing to worry about for she is the best witch in the world."

I clenched my eyes tight and a shooting pain sliced through my abdomen. "I do not want to talk about this anymore, Lucia. I want to be left alone." I grumbled with a pained gasp.

Beaded sweat coated my skin, Lucia dabbed it with a cloth, her face pinched in worry. "Are you alright with staying by yourself?"

"I'm fine Lucia, I'm not dying yet." I joked with a faint smile though it did not reach my eyes. She did not comment on my blatant lie.

"Do you need anything? Perhaps something to eat to regain your strength?" She asked hopefully, brushing the hair on my forehead. Lucia had been caring for me since I was a wee babe. It was cruel to make her see me die as well.

I nodded, coughing. "Aye, I would love it if you made that special mushroom soup."

Her brows furrowed before she nodded hard. I knew why she hesitated to make the soup. It took at the very least an entire hour to be cooked properly.

And this was exactly why I opted to make her cook it. An hour would be enough for me to escape this coffin-like room that mocked me of my incoming death.

Zefer

"The toxin you have been giving Ares is working. The child is growing weaker each day. It is now time when he drops dead." I smirked, running my hands through a silky mass of dark hair.

Mericel looked at me through thick lashes, her dark eyes swirling with wickedness. Her dark hair sprawled against my bare sweaty chest.

We had only just finished our lovemaking and I wanted more. This woman was about to give me everything I have ever wanted.

The crown.

"Not so fast, my sweet." She whispered, looking at my chest as she traced my skin. Her lashes fluttered as she looked at me beneath them. "My crows have informed me of a little detour on our plans. Your brother Zachary and Isabela are seeking a cure."

Rage filled my form. Of course they would, that little brat was to be the next king.

But the crown is mine. A growl rumbles in my chest, my wolf ready to emerge.

Mericel smirked, her red-tainted lips splitting to reveal white teeth. "Now calm down. Do you forget who I am? My dark magic is not easily cured. "

My wolf eased but I was still not fully relaxed.

She sighed and sat up, the sheet falling and revealing her bare breast. She was beautiful but she was only here to appease my lust and wants.

"But I am afraid that they have gone to one of the witches in my coven. This one is fairly powerful with knowledge of healing potions. She is the best, Ester. I am certain she will find a way to cure the boy. It is only time until she finds out that the dark magic is mine."

I narrowed my eyes in anger. "What is it you suggest we do?"

Her lips curled into a cruel smile. "We must kill her and her mate. If we do not kill him, he will not rest until he hunts us down. Beta Michael is your brother's ally, he will give Zachary his word of what has happened if we do not take care of Beta Michael first."

At this moment, a sudden push was felt through my mind-link to the pack. A powerful presence.

Zachary.

My eyes turned foggy as I awaited what that bastard would want to say.

Zefer, you are needed atonce. The vampires have breached our territory. They are out for blood.

Zachary, I will come to you when I am done. I am simply looking for more of that tonic for little Ares.

Alright brother, please hasten.

The mind-link cut off and my vision was clear again. Mericel looked at me with a knowing look. "Zachary?"

I nodded, pulling her naked flesh to me. "Aye. The vampires have breached the territory. He could die for all I care, this way he wouldn't die by my hand." I smirked and rolled her beneath me to have my wicked way with her.

The vampires should slaughter them all.

After a while.

Blood smeared beneath my feet as I ambled through the woods. Ah, the stench of vampires. From what I could smell, there were more dead vampires than werewolves.

The war must be over. There weren't any signs or sounds of fighting. My naked body entered the castle and a frantic maid tossed a dark silk robe at my hands. Her cheeks were crimson as she darted away from me.

Women. They act all innocent but are nothing but whores.

I did not care that I was naked, I had only just shifted back to my human form. But I knew Zachary would have my head if he saw me prancing around naked. His mate would not resist. I smirked.

I threw the robe around my shoulders and secured it around my huge powerful form. I had made sure to wash myself off the scent of a witch. Dark witches tend to carry a scent of death around them.

"You. Where is my brother?" I questioned one of the maids. They were all werewolves, low ranking and not to be taken seriously. Whores. They were only good for when I needed a bitch to submit in bed.

Her wide-doe eyes darted away from me in what I presume was nerves. "Lord Zefer." She bowed her head and tilted it aside to show submission. "King Zachary is in the dungeon with one of the vampires."

I nodded and sauntered over to the towering oak wooden doors. If the bitch had taken too long in answering me, I would have opted to sink my claws into her pretty neck and tear it apart. I detested waiting.

"You are late," Zachary growled, his blue eyes turning red.

Your wolf was angry. Calm down, you fucking pup. Of course, I refrained from saying this out loud. I rolled my eyes sauntering over to Zachary.

The rancid vampire seated on the chair, bounded by chains. "Relax brother, you did fairly well without me. Did you not?" I asked sarcastically.

His eyes shifted back to their original color, blue. "This is true, but I would have wanted you to fight alongside us. Several wolves are dead."

I resisted the urge to lash out my annoyance. Fight alongside him? I would rather cut off my throat. He was not fit to be my king.

"I know, brother, I was simply looking for more tonic for Ares. I could not see him suffer another day." I lied through my teeth. Aye, I did find a tonic, but it is not for healing.

Mericel had used some of her dark magic to cloak the scent of poison. So even with our strongest sense of smell, we would not notice the bitter scent of toxins.

"I do not worry anymore. Isabela and I have found a white witch to cure him of this disease. Ester. She is Beta Michael's mate." He responded. "I should have asked her sooner, if only I had known the sickness would have gotten worse.

I felt the dull pressure of my canines forcing out. I turned away from him, my eyes flashing in vexation. "Brother, we do not compromise with a witch. We cannot trust that she will cure him."

I proceeded to the table with different tools for torture. I would force my temper out on that putrid vampire. My large hands circled around the handle of the knife, careful not to touch the silver.

"Aye, what you say is true but Isabela trusts the witch and I trust Michael. He has not failed me once." Zachary declared.

My wolf wanted to lash out and kill him. I was tired of hearing his idiocy. This was why he was not fit to rule. He made the pack weak, just like him and his damn son.

The vampire spat out blood, waking up from his little nap. He should rather have stayed in his slumber for what awaited him was pure torture. He would very much wish for a quick death soon.

"Very well, brother, I wish for the witch to find the cure for him soon. Ares deserves it." I uttered, walking up to the vampire.

Yes, Ares deserves death. He will die when the moon reaches its peak in two days.
