Deanna Wiley reaches Luis Eaton's car after stabbing a captor and running barefoot from the building where she was held. The pursuit is still under way. In Marked by the Pureblood Alpha, surviving that escape brings her into another difficult situation: the man who intervenes knows something about their connection that she does not, and the drug her kidnappers forced on her is still active.

The escape begins with a blade Jake never sees
The kidnappers expect Deanna's position as Jake Olson's future Luna to make her valuable enough for a ransom. Jake treats the call as an attempt to interrupt his ceremony with Peggie. His refusal leaves Deanna without the protection that her promised status was supposed to provide. When he dismisses the captors' threat of sexual violence, they use his response to justify assaulting her. His words give them no right to do so.
Deanna's escape depends on details established before she runs. The kidnappers cut her bindings so she can make the call. Later, she finds a blade on the floor, waits until a captor is distracted, and strikes. Her wolf, Mila, is unconscious from wolfsbane, so shifting is unavailable. These constraints make the escape an improvised response to a narrow opportunity. The drug and the injuries to her feet continue to affect her as she runs.
Throwing herself in front of the Porsche is another desperate calculation. The pursuers are closing in, and she would rather risk the car than be recaptured. Deanna creates the chance to reach help; Luis still has to stop the men following her. Keeping both actions in view gives her credit without pretending she was already safe.

Luis arrives with knowledge Deanna does not share
Deanna recognizes Luis from a brief encounter at a gala and asks him for help. His account adds information she does not yet have: Griffin, his wolf, had identified her as his fated mate when he first saw her. Deanna approaches someone she barely knows while Luis understands the encounter through an existing claim. That difference matters whenever his certainty is presented beside her confusion.
Luis also describes a limit on his earlier freedom to act. Taking Jake's promised partner would risk conflict between the established bloodlines and the rising packs. His delay is explained through responsibility to his people and his expectation that Jake will fail her. It does not establish that he and Deanna have discussed what either of them wants.
Once she reaches him, Luis puts her in the car and confronts the pursuers. He calls Erik to the villa; Chapter 3 confirms that Erik brought medication. Those actions address immediate danger. They do not settle what Deanna owes Luis, or give him permission to decide the relationship for her. Erik's medication is mentioned after the encounter, not shown being administered beforehand.

The drug is still active when Luis asks
In Chapter 2, Luis knows Deanna has been drugged. The narration continues to describe her as feverish and dazed when she initiates intimacy. He asks whether she recognizes him and whether she will regret what happens. Recognizing a person and answering a question do not resolve the impaired judgment the scene has already established.

Her own explanation is essential to reading the earlier scene. The requests she makes under the drug's influence cannot be treated as uncomplicated, freely given consent. Luis's recognition of a mate bond does not remove that problem. Nor does the care he gives her afterward establish that the encounter was freely chosen.
The pressure continues after the drug wears off. Luis asks how she will make things up to him and frames further intimacy as returning a favor. Deanna describes fear and hesitation before he acts. In Chapter 4, she begins to reconsider what she wants after Jake's betrayal, but the scene also includes a moment when she thinks of pulling away and Luis restrains her wrists. Her attraction deserves attention alongside those limits on her freedom; later desire cannot retroactively establish consent during the drugged encounter.

Chapter 5 returns to Jake, who orders a wedding dress and jewelry as compensation for the ceremony with Peggie. When Deanna cannot be reached, he puts the dress plans on hold. The sequence exposes how conditional his proposed repair is: he offers it while expecting her to remain available to him.
At Luis's villa, Deanna still thinks of him as someone she barely knows. She tries to regard the encounter as casual, then tells him they are even. Luis questions that conclusion. Ending the sample on this exchange leaves an unresolved boundary between assistance, intimacy, and obligation. Neither his provision of clean clothes nor her attraction supplies a shared agreement about what comes next.
As the story continues, watch whether Deanna can set terms without having to repay protection, and whether Luis responds to a boundary as readily as he responds to danger. The first five chapters give reasons to ask those questions. They do not yet establish an equal partnership or reveal how the relationship ends.
